Paper Quilling the Micro

Paper quilling is the art of composing a picture from rolled strips of paper. The technique dates back to the Renaissance, when French and Italian nuns and monks used it to decorate the covers of books.

For this assignment, students were asked to use an image of a plant or animal cell (taken via a microscope) as their inspiration. They zoomed in on an area of their image, recreating it by quilling and gluing colorful paper within the space of a recycled cigar box.
