Folded Paper Reliefs by 7th Grade

This project began with a screening of the film Between the Folds. The film looks at the ancient art of paper folding through a variety of lenses, including interviews with artists, mathematicians, and scientists.  
Students experimented with folding squares of paper, then choose a principle of art (balance, proportion, emphasis, variety, movement, rhythm or harmony), which they used to inform the composition of their artwork. Most works include up to 50 folded squares.
